Session 3 - Serpent King

by Greybeard

1.
Oh! The hopeless are adrift Forever left behind Searching for something more Never to be found Shadows of darkness Creep across the land Morbid sense of dread Overwhelming the truth (Chorus) Looking for a savoir Veil over the eyes Seeking a redeemer The serpent in disguise Blinded by stupidity Unleashing the brutality Summoning a dark king To subjugate us all (Bridge) Chanting his name Bringing him forth Shatter our world Bring us to our knees Worship at his alter Blind to his lies Unleashing his wrath There’ll be no mercy (Slow Part) Incantations to summon him A power they cannot control The snake with many names A reflection of their souls What have they unleashed? Ohhhhhhhhhhhh! Looking for a savior Summoning the overlord Darkness has taken control Sweeping across the land The ritual is complete Our fate is in his hands (Repeat Chorus)
2.
Serpent King 06:32
Behold the being before us Rising with cold, dead eyes Forked and vile tongue Spewing hatred and lies Surrounded by his minions Sea of mindless drones Basking in the glory Of his new found crown (Chorus) Rising to take his crown From a pit of snakes Behold the serpent king Summoned from the deep Rising to take control Futile to resist Taking his rightful place On a throne of deceit Ascending to his throne Kingdom of lies The masses brought him forth They’ll reap what they sow Basking in the glory Of their serpent king The chosen are rewarded The rest will surely die (Repeat Chorus) (Ending x2) Forked and vile tongue Spewing hatred and lies Surrounded by his minions Staring with cold, dead eyes
3.
The armies of the serpent Gathered and waiting Upon his command They will unleash hell Unspeakable horror From a dark force Once a friend and ally Now a deadly foe Summoned by the mindless Place upon his throne Looking for a savior Little did they know Those who oppose him Fleeing for their lives Madness grips the land Chaos has taken hold (Chorus) Burn it to the ground No will survive the onslaught of the snake Fleeing for their lives Alas the innocent will be the first to die Sweeping through the village None shall be spared Nothing shall endure As they march on The fields are ablaze The buildings are rubble Life will cease and desist On this scorched earth (Repeat Chorus) (Ending) Their defenses have fallen The enemy has broken through Fleeing for their lives The innocent are now exiles There is nothing left To oppose the serpent king Those left behind Will suffer forever more

Spectre 08:23
What has happened to our home? Blind to the obvious It has been overthrown A shadow of what it used to be Clinging to a memory of faded glory (Chorus) Haunted by the past History does not forget Ghosts of the innocent Trapped inside the mind Specter of a lost nation Opulence gives way to damnation (Breakdown Part 1) The serpent kings remains Alone on his throne His nation is forsaken He will die alone Clinging to his doctrine His followers are gone History will remember him Hated and despised by all (Breakdown Part 1) A ghost of we used to be Specter of freedom Haunts the memory A ghost of a failed nation Specter of happiness, oh so fleeting What has happened to our home? Blind to the obvious It has been overthrown A shadow of what it used to be Clinging to a memory of faded glory (Repeat Chorus) (Ending) How did we let this come to pass? All that we cherish shattered and gone How did we let this slip away? All of our memories, distant, fading, gone

about

These four songs are a story about the rise of a dark, sinister leader who takes control of a nation, destroys and oppresses any and all opposition and, in the end, is the root cause of his nation’s demise and destruction.

There are a couple of overarching themes baked into to these songs, the first being the notion of how easy it is to deceive when you have a willing audience. This idea is sprinkled throughout the songs but more prevalent on the first two (The Summoning and Serpent King.) The second theme that inspired me was the idea of self-reflection after you've reached the point of no return. The last part of Spectre really drives this idea home.

I've never written songs as a larger narrative so this was a lot of fun, and there were (and still are!) a lot of things happening in our world that served as inspiration. I also made all the songs start (or include a word) with the letter "S" just cuz I'm goofy like that. \m/
